A Place to Sleep

We finally got a bed!!!!!

The first month and a half of our marriage was spent with me sleeping on the couch and Nate sleeping on the floor next to me (sometimes I would give up the couch and go sleep with him...but the floor is just not very nice).  Once we had a bit of money we bought a mattress and put it on the floor in our bedroom.  It was definitely a step up but a mattress on the floor doesn't exude the coziness I think a bedroom should have.  Instead of crawling up into bed we literally fell down onto it.  

It's been almost 10 months of marriage and this past weekend we finally buckled down and bought one.  Nate has been looking online for one basically since we said "yes" so this was no impulse buy.  Gosh, beds are expensive!  We went with an IKEA bed that we found online a few months ago.  The closest IKEA in in Utah so we had to wait to get it until we went down there.  

Our comforter is actually a down comforter we bought on ebay a few weeks ago with a duvet cover (also from ebay) that just came yesterday.  The down comforter retails for $450 and we got it brand new for $50!  Score!  We almost bought one with the Macy's giftcards from our wedding and ended up getting pots and pans instead...definitely the right choice as we spent way less money later!

Have I said how happy I am that we have a bed finally?!?!?!  It just makes our room 10X better and it doesn't take up as much space as I thought it would either.  Also, can I brag about my husband for a bit?  Because he put this whole thing together by himself while I was at work for 7 hours yesterday and totally surprised me.  I was under the impression we were going to do it together later in the week (which now doesn't make sense since we are going to Ohio on Thursday...).  Anyways, he's the best.  

Life is good at home, sweet little home.

It also came with covers for pillows but they go on King size pillows and ours are just regular ones so those are on our "to buy" list for the future.

A New Job

I finally found a job!

It was pretty stressful the last two weeks of looking because I felt so much pressure to find something so we could start bringing money in again.  I don't envy Nate and his responsibility to provide for our family the rest of our lives.  I'm stressed enough knowing I have to do it for the next few years and it's only us two!

I decided not to take the job I talked about in the last post.  It really was great but it just didn't feel right for me and I had to go with my gut on it.  Instead, I have just gotten a job at Broulims, a local grocery store.  Funny enough, I really wanted to get a job there when we first moved back but I thought I should try to find something full time or within my field of study.  Since that didn't happen, Broulims it was!  I had to go through two interviews but it all worked out in the end.  I have orientation on Thursday so I guess we will see how it goes then.  Oh, and I forgot to say that I'll be a checker...can't wait to talk to people and see what they are eating!

The Job Hunt

So I know I'm not the greatest when it comes to looking for jobs.  I really haven't had to seriously look for a job in my entire life!  I've been REALLY lucky when it comes to finding ones that fit me in a short amount of time.

My first job EVER was with the Admissions Office which I worked for for three years.  And it's crazy to think that I actually applied for a different job that was through an organization with the office (but not Admissions) and the week I was supposed to start that organization got moved to a different department so I was hired in the office with a job that didn't exist anymore.  Thankfully, they offered me a position with Admissions and I couldn't have been more happy.  It was such a blessing in so many ways!

My next jobs came from a class I was in (the Wellness Center), and the apartment I lived at (as a Manager's assistant) so those were fairly easy.  Then my internship came because I originally interviewed for a different internship and didn't get it but they recommended me to another department on campus.  A blessing yet again!  I still had to interview for it against some other students, but I felt pretty confident I would get it.

Now, here I am, a college graduate in a small town trying to find something to do with my time and it's HARD.  It's hard because there aren't a ton of jobs for someone with a degree in Health Science and nothing else.  It's not like there are no jobs for a BS in HS but you have to go to a much larger city to find the good ones.  So I've been looking at many different types of jobs here in town.

After looking online at tons of websites and postings I thought I found the perfect one.  It was in the health field, working with people, plus doing some administrative work.  The only qualification listed was that you have a high school diploma and while looking at the job duties I realized I had hands on experience for every single one.  It really was perfect for me!

Well after repeated phone calls to the place, visiting them once, and more phone calls, I'm resigning myself to the fact that they just don't want me.  And I can't fathom why!!  I seriously fit the job PERFECTLY and my resume shows that.  I don't know what else they are looking for.  Especially to at least give me an interview!  I keep wondering what qualifications other people had that got interviews when I didn't.  I honestly don't know what more I could have besides years of experience.  I just figure when they want someone with years of experience they put that on the description...not just that you need a freakin HS diploma.  Sheesh, I at least have a degree in Health Science with an almost perfect gpa and experience doing EXACTLY what the job does.  EXACTLY.  I'm baffled.  And a little hurt.  I don't take rejection lightly.

I am slowly convincing myself that this must be a good thing because it was probably the worst job in the world and no fun and the people there probably suck.  Thankfully, I have a lead on another job in town that is probably not my ideal but at this point I really need to start making us some money.  So if that works out I guess there will be another post shortly....

The Drive-In

Friday night was date night at the drive-in!  It was so much fun to go see a movie together and enjoy the crisp night air.  We went mainly to see Spiderman 2.  The second show was Captain America but we saw that a few weeks ago with Nate's family so we ended up sleeping through most of it.

Earlier in the week we were going to have pizza for dinner and then I suggested waiting until Friday so we could just eat pizza in the car at the movies.  We went with Pizza Hut and got the big box dinner so we'd have leftovers but it ended up being one of the worst pizza's we've ever had!  It just wasn't fresh at all.  And the side of wings was gross...and the breadsticks were just mediocre.  How disappointing!  We had been looking forward to pizza for so long!

It was great to spend time together and I love being able to lay down (and cuddle!) while watching a movie instead of sitting upright in theater seats.

Scrapbooking

I think I am currently addicted to online scrapbooking.  I wanted to scrapbook our wedding but was a little overwhelmed with the idea so I decided to try out Shutterfly.  I've made a calendar on there before but that's about it.  Let me tell you, if this turns out well I will be sold.  I figure if I can just buy everything when it's on sale, I won't be spending that much more money than regular scrapbooking.  Heck, it could even be less seeing as I have practically NO scrapbooking materials here.  I've always just used what my mom has.

I'm really excited about the wedding one but it is just so hard to pick which pictures are my favorite!!!  I have to keep adding pages to the album...whoops.

I'm going to start another book on our first year as well.  I really want to make sure I stay up-to-date with our lives so I don't forget anything :)  I've thought about getting my blogs printed off into a book as well to have the journal side of things as well but we'll see.  I should probably do it with my old blog and my Peru one.  Sadly, everything costs money which we don't have much of haha

Rexburg Beginnings

Off to Rexburg on Wednesday!!!!!

One of the first things we did was go grocery shopping since we had no food.  While at Walmart we stumbled across the following kitchen table and after staring at it for 20 minutes and talking pros and cons we bought it on the spot.  I couldn't be more pleased with it!  We were both a little hesitant to get it because it was Walmart but it's really great.  Solid wood!  I am thankful for a husband who will spend hours putting it all together while I sleep on the couch...

I also ordered some awesome canvas pictures of our wedding and had them sent directly to our apartment so I had yet to see how they turned out.  They are AMAZING.  I found a company called Canvas on Demand and they had a sale going on where the 16X20s were 78% off AND free shipping if you bought at least two.  So I got three prints for $78 instead of $336.  At Walmart I believe it would be $120 for the same thing so it was still a steal of a deal!

We have had some delicious meals on our table in the few days we have had it.  One night we made homemade pizza and it was probably the best homemade pizza I've ever had.  Thanks completely to Nate (of course).  I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce we picked but the stuffed, garlic crust was amazing!

On Sunday we had full intentions to cook a delicious Easter dinner.  We had steak, potatoes and artichokes...yum!  Well we made guacamole after church and had that for "lunch" and then we weren't hungry by 7:00 when we went to a friend's housewarming party.  When we got home from that a little before 9:00 we weren't in the mood to cook a huge meal anymore so we settled on Red Robin frozen french fries, Bobby Flay cooked hot dogs and buffalo hot wings.  Happy Easter!!
